Benchmarking Opportunity |
NEMSMA and the North Central EMS Institute jointly operate a national business data benchmarking program. Unlike other programs that measure clinical activities, this one provides comparative information about business processes (such as fleet cost per mile). To participate in the program, send an e-mail to data@ncemsi.org. Each participant is assigned a random blinded number. Data submitted to the project is completely confidential, only the program coordinator knows who the participants are. After submitting data, each participant receives a spreadsheet in which a number of calculations have been produced, as well as the blinded data from other participants. At the end of the data collection period, each participant receives a spreadsheet with the data from all participants in the program year. A number of demographic data points are collected, as well as specific data, so that participants can look for others that most closely match their circumstances (urban or rural, large or small geography covered, lots of transports or few, full-time or volunteer, for example). The program is FREE to the participants. |

| | NEMSMA Releases EMS Management & Leadership White PaperThe National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) released a white paper at EMS EXPO in October that calls on the EMS industry to make significant improvements in they way in which it defines, educates, trains and credentials those individuals responsible for the management of EMS agencies. The white paper, titled “Emergency Medical Services Management and Leadership Development in America: An Agenda for the Future,” calls for all national groups representing EMS to come together to agree on standardized nomenclature to define the various levels of EMS management and assign competencies to each of those levels. This effort would be called the National EMS Officers Levels and Competencies Project. NEMSMA also calls for the creation of the National EMS Officers Training and Education Project to develop model course offerings and model curricula for EMS management that would guide training programs and academic institutions in supporting consensus-identified competencies. Part of that project also would bring together all the major training programs and educational institutions engaged in EMS officer development to engage in future development of EMS management curricula and create a vision and plan for a national EMS officer development and resource center. Finally, NEMSMA seeks the creation of a national organization to award credentials to EMS managers who are able to demonstrate the competencies defined by the National EMS Officers Levels and Competencies Project. read more ...

Lighthouse Uniforms |
| NEMSMA-Lighthouse RelationshipNEMSMA and Lighthouse Uniform Company, the home of the Fallen EMT/Paramedic Dress Uniform Program have entered in to a partnership to facilitate and promote the utilization of dress uniforms by EMS agencies. In a recent survey of NEMSMA members, over 80% supported the concept of a standard "look" for EMS dress uniforms. NEMSMA is proud to join with Lighthouse Uniforms, who has been a leader in the EMS dress uniform movement for many years. Click Here for a look at this history of this movement.
"Our Class-A uniforms were a tremendous success at a recent September 11th Memorial Service. Police, Fire, and EMS personnel from local counties were represented and we were the only agency in an NAEMT Lighthouse Uniform. As a matter of fact, the minister at the local church made this comment to everyone 'If I were able to belong to any agency here, it would be these guys on the front row because they have the sharpest looking uniform.' That was a major endorsement from the public that confirmed our decision to buy from Lighthouse Uniform was the right one." - Tim Wood, Supervisor, Boyd County EMS, KY The attached document outlines the member benefits available to members as a result of this partnership. In these difficult economic times, all of us need all of the help and support we can get. This is an opportunity to help your organization and to help NEMSMA as well.
